About Reuben Walter

Short Bio on brother Reuben

Reuben was born and raised on a Hutterite community, and has spent most of his life on the Fort Pitt Farms Christian Community. He was born in 1969 in Provost, Alberta, and when he was one year old, his parents moved to Fort Pitt as part of a daughter colony from Ribstone Colony.

His father, Paul Walter, was the senior minister and overseer of the colony since its inception until his passing in May of 2010 at 79 1/2 years of age. Reuben is the 9th child in the family of 10. He has four older brothers and one younger, and four sisters who all reside on the community. All but one brother are currently living at Fort Pitt.

Reuben gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in the spring of 1992, and was appointed assistant German school teacher in 1995. After working in school for two years, he came to the realization that if Fort Pitt Community was to impact its future generation for the Lord, they would need to opt out of the public school system, and start our own private Christian school.

That proved to be a monumental challenge as he and 2 other members of the community, with no prior experience, undertook the formidable task of transforming the school. They turned to the Mennonites for help with starting the school, which turned out to be a blessing from God. Christian Light Publications provided them with curriculum and basic training, and to this day, they still use CLE material for at least 50% of their curriculum.

Reuben and his wife, Annie, were married in January of 1996, and they currently are blessed with 8 children ranging from 20 to 1 years of age. Their names are Raymond, Brian, Adina, Brendon, Janelle, Derek, Arielle, and Janeva. Besides the blessings of the eight children, they have experience first hand the pain of losing loved ones.  In 2002, they lost their first child, Rodney, to an incurable cellular disorder, mitochondrial disease, when he was only four months old. Then they lost two children in a row, Adrian in 2009, and Adelya in June 2011 with the same disease.

As of 2016, Reuben has 20 years of teaching and administration experience, and 15 years experience of working with young people. He was ordained as a pastor along with his younger brother, Ben, in January of 2009 by the members of Fort Pitt Christian Community.
